Troopers: Teen in Wasilla dies of gunshot wound

Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla say a 16-year-old boy has died as the result of a gunshot wound.

An online dispatch does not say how the shooting happened.

Troopers responded to a call Monday, shortly after midnight, from a home in the Mat-Su community. It was reported the teenager had sustained a gunshot wound.

"Troopers and (medics) responded and the juvenile was airlifted to (a hospital) where he was later pronounced deceased," the dispatch says.

The State Medical Examiner took the body for an autopsy, the dispatch says.

Troopers say the boy's family has been told about the death, and the investigation into its circumstances continues.

Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that Alaska State Troopers responded to the call about the gunshot wound Sunday morning. The call came in Monday morning.
