7-year-old dies of injuries suffered in South Anchorage collision

A 7-year-old died Wednesday from injuries suffered in a collision in South Anchorage, police said.

The crash happened Tuesday night at Lake Otis Parkway and O'Malley Road.

Police said a Ford Explorer was eastbound on O'Malley and a Honda Accord was westbound on the road. At the intersection, the Ford was making a left turn to go north on Lake Otis on a flashing yellow arrow, said Renee Oistad, police spokeswoman. The Honda was traveling straight through the intersection on a green light. The vehicles collided.

Police said they responded to the crash at 8:23 p.m.

The single occupant in the Ford and the three occupants of the Honda, including the 7-year-old, were all taken to the hospital, according to police.

The child was declared dead shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, police said. The others suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police have not identified any of the people involved in the collision.

Oistad said Wednesday afternoon that she could not provide additional information, including the cause of the collision, because police were still investigating.
