Anchorage police say they are investigating human remains found Wednesday morning near the Seward Highway south of Beluga Point.

Officers responded at about 9:15 a.m. to the report but said they have little additional information.

Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Renee Oistad said the agency is “still very early in the investigation.”

The remains were around Mile 108 of the highway near the Rainbow trailhead along Turnagain Arm.

Investigators don’t know the identity of the person, how long the remains have been there, or the cause of death, Oistad said. The department doesn’t anticipate knowing more until the State Medical Examiner finishes an autopsy, she said.
