Pedestrian seriously injured after car strikes him in downtown Anchorage

A man crossing the street at a downtown intersection early Saturday morning was struck by a car and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Anchorage police.

Officers responded around 2:17 a.m. to the site of the collision at G Street and Fourth Avenue, the Anchorage Police Department said in an online alert.

Officers’ initial investigation found that the driver of a silver sedan was heading west on Fourth Avenue when they hit an adult male walking in the crosswalk at the intersection of Fourth and G, police said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene, who called the police and how long it took medics to arrive after the man was hit.

A section of Fourth Avenue was closed to traffic until around 6 a.m. Saturday while officers investigated.

No charges have yet been filed, the police department said. Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage of the collision to contact dispatch by dialing 311.

“Police are currently following up on leads and there is no suspect information to release at this time,” the police department said.
