Man found dead in Fairbanks hotel; police investigating as homicide

Fairbanks police are investigating the death of a man found in a downtown motel Sunday morning as a homicide.

Police were called to the Alaska Motor Inn in downtown Fairbanks at 6:48 a.m. Sunday for a "report of a possible deceased man in the building," the Fairbanks Police Department said in a statement.

Police found an "unresponsive" man at the base of an interior stairway in the building.

The man was identified as Carlos Lamar Battle, 35, of Fairbanks. Police did not describe Battle's injuries, or what prompted them to treat the case as a homicide.

Anyone with information on "recent suspicious activity at the Alaska Motor Inn" is asked to call Fairbanks police detective Alana Malloy at 907-450-6557.
