Jerry Bates of Anchorage faces more than nine years in prison for selling drugs in Alaska, according to a statement from the Department of Justice.
The 29-year-old Bates was sentenced Wednesday to 110 months in prison for possessing and distributing various illegal substances -- crack, cocaine, meth, heroin, oxycodone -- over several years, according to Yvonne Lamoureux, an Assistant U.S. Attorney for Alaska.
Anchorage police and the FBI coordinated in taking Bates down. He was arrested a little less than a year ago, riding around in a limousine selling heroin. When the law caught up with him, Bates had "on his person" 95 grams of heroin, oxycodone and other pills, $6,255 cash and nearly 30 gift cards, the press release said.
Investigators watched Bates for more than two years. Court documents quoted in the release said in 2008 he'd sold some 50 grams of powder cocaine and six grams of crack. In 2009, Bates was busted selling six and a half grams of crystal meth.
U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Burgess also sentenced Bates to five years of supervised probation after completion of his prison sentence. Burgess said the sentence "was necessary to protect the public from further crimes … and to afford adequate deterrence to criminal conduct."
