Anchorage's Schierhorn USA Hockey Goaltender of Year

Impressive award today for goaltender Eric Schierhorn of Anchorage -- he's USA Hockey's Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year, which goes to the top U.S. goalie at the international, pro, college or junior level.

Schierhorn, 19, who is ticketed for the University of Minnesota, helped propel the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL Finals. In the regular season, he went 26-13-4 with a 2.51 goals-against average and .927 save percentage. In the playoffs, he went 6-6-0, 3.19, .915.

Schierhorn also shined on the international stage, backstopping, the U.S. Junior Select Team to the championship of the World Junior A Challenge. He merely went 3-0-0 with a 0.97 goals-against average, .959 save percentage and one shutout, all of which merited an all-tournament selection.

Schierhorn is eligible for the NHL draft this summer.
