Nearly 100 Alaska Air flights delayed due to ‘network connectivity issue’

Seventy Alaska Airlines flights and nearly 30 Horizon Air flights were delayed by up to two hours Saturday afternoon as the result of what a spokeswoman for the company called a "network connectivity issue."

The problem started at noon Alaska time and lasted until about 2:30 p.m., said spokeswoman Bobbie Egan. Flights in multiple cities were affected, including Anchorage, San Francisco, San Diego and Boston, she said.

There were also two cancellations on Horizon Air, one of which was a flight from Anchorage to Fairbanks, she said.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are owned by Alaska Air Group.

"Our systems weren't able to get online," Egan said, meaning the airline couldn't access information like customer records.

Things were "back to normal" by about 2:30 p.m., she said.

Alaska Airlines' IT technicians isolated the issue to a router in Portland, Egan said in an email.

The airline is still working to figure out the cause of the problem, she said.
