Letter: Protect Pioneer Home residents

I urge the governor to sign into law House Bill 96, an act relating to Pioneer Home rates. With both the House and Senate voting unanimously to pass this legislation, there is no reason to delay. Residents have suffered under drastic rate increases imposed on them by the administration since last September.

The Legislature, under the leadership of Rep. Zack Fields and many fine cosponsors, addressed the issue and came up with an excellent compromise. It would show a measure of grace for the governor to promptly sign the bill and lighten the burden of our elderly residents, who are struggling not only with financial hardships, but also with being cut off from the comfort of family visits during the COVID-19 crisis.
