Junior dragsters take over Saturday at Alaska Raceway Park

Saturday belongs to the kids this weekend at Alaska Raceway Park in Palmer.

Kids ages 7 to 17 will rule the drag strip from about 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this season's second installation of Junior Chaos racing.

The grownups will take charge in the late afternoon and evening on Saturday and all day on Sunday.

After the junior races, action moves to the speedway's oval track, where competition will be held for thunder stocks, mini stocks, legends, late models and baby grands.

For Saturday's junior drag races, the pit gate opens at 10 a.m., followed by time trials at 11 and double-elimination racing at noon.

For Saturday's races on the oval, gates open at 3 p.m., qualifying's at 4:45 p.m. and the heats begin at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, gates open at 10 a.m.
