Aided by a mistake that turned into a strike, Anchorage bowler Sean Rash claimed the 12th PBA Tour title of his career Sunday.
Rash, a 34-year-old Dimond High graduate, rolled seven straight strikes in the finals to win the Xtra Frame Gene Carter's Pro Shop Classic in Wilmington, Delaware.
It was the first victory of the season for Rash, who has won a Tour title in nine of his 12 seasons as a pro.
"Winning never gets old," he said in a press release from the PBA.
Rash beat reigning PBA Player of the Year EJ Tackett 257-223 in Sunday's finals. Among his seven straight strikes was a Brooklyn strike, meaning his ball hit the pocket opposite from the one he was aiming for.
"I got a little slow on that shot and grabbed it," Rash said, "but I threw some good ones when I needed them."
Rash, who lives in Montgomery, Illinois, collected $15,000 for the win to bring his total Tour winnings to $1.18 million since 2005.
Rash clinched a spot in Sunday's finals by finishing first in match play with a score of 5,501 in 23 games, a score that includes total pinfall and bonus points.
For the season, Rash owns a 222 average.
