South seals top seed in CIC baseball tourney

Parker Johnson threw a one-hitter Tuesday to lift South over Dimond 12-0 and into the No. 1 seed in the Cook Inlet Conference baseball playoffs.

Johnson struck out seven batters in five innings.

South's Sladen Mohl drove in three in the fifth inning to push South over the 10-run mercy rule.

Johnson did all his damage on the mound as he was the only South batter without a hit in the game.

The Wolverines finished the regular season undefeated at 7-0 in CIC play.

In other action, Service defeated Bartlett 12-2. The win clinched the No. 2 seed for the Cougars (6-1).

Dimond (5-2) is the No. 3 seed and Chugiak (4-3) holds the No. 4 seed.

The CIC tournament begins Thursday with consolation pool play and Friday for playoff pool play. The top two playoff teams qualify for the state tournament, which begins June 1 at Mulcahy Stadium.
