Eagle River goalie's 40 saves enough to beat West hockey team

Eagle River goaltender Trent Burnham racked up 40 saves Saturday, 21 of them in the third period, to backstop the Wovles' 3-2 Cook Inlet Conference hockey victory over West at Ben Boeke Arena.

Joshua Linn scored two goals and assisted on the third for the Wolves. Michael Maddox provided the other goal and Sutton McDonald and Connor Canterburh each delivered two assists.

Eagle River led 3-0 before West scored on the first of two Dmitry Hamm goals. The first came with eight seconds left in the second period and the second came five minutes into the third period.

West goaltender Isaiah Seville recorded 20 saves.

Lathrop 10, Bartlett 2

Hat tricks from Corey Miscovich and Hayden Masterson fueled Lathrop's 10-2 nonconference hockey win over Bartlett at Ben Boeke Arena on Saturday.

Colin King added two goals and Trenton Spears and Adam Victorino each scored once for the Malemutes, who got 19 saves from goalie Emilia Helms-Leslie.

Chad Beals and Cody Bell provided goals for Bartlett. Keegan Auf Der Heide stopped 17 of 24 shots and George Seidel turned back 15 of 18 for the Golden Bears.

Service 6, Homer 0

Service won the Peninsula Ice Challenge with a 6-0 victory over Homer on Saturday at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex. Both the Cougars and Mariners came into the final day of the round-robin tournament with 2-0 records, but Service scored two goals in each period to wear the crown.

Just 49 seconds into the game, Andre Gaskov, assisted by Blaine Sharrock, scored the only goal the Cougars needed.

Luke Carlson added another first-period goal, Sharrock and Landon Hill provided second-period goals and Johnny Stephens scored a pair of third-period goals for the Cougars.

Ronan Klancher made 10 saves to earn the shutout. Riley Swanson stopped 36 for Homer.
