Danni Desjarlais named Gatorade softball player of the year

South right-handed pitcher and infielder Danni Desjarlais has been honored as the 2016-17 Gatorade Alaska Softball Player of the Year following the team's undefeated championship season.

Desjarlais pitched the championship game in both 2016 and 2017 during South's back-to-back state titles. She recorded five strikeouts in seven innings and pushed across four RBIs in this past weekend's title defense over East.

She finished the season with 170 strikeouts in 116 innings. Desjarlais holds numerous records for South, including batting average (.589), career hits (152), RBIs in a season (34), career RBIs (103) and career innings pitched (313).

The CIC Player of the Year is the first Wolverine to be recognized for softball.

Not only a force on the diamond, Desjarlais also maintained a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and was a National Honor Society member. She also volunteered at a homeless shelter for the Adopt-A-Family Association.
