Class 2A girls produce blowouts, barnburners

Two blowouts and two barnburners decided the semifinalists in the Class 2A girls basketball tournament Wednesday at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Metlakatla and Point Hope won big — the Miss Chiefs routed Dillingham 59-25 and the Harpoonerettes pummeled Glennallen 53-27.

In the other two games, Nenana and Unalaska survived close calls — Nenana edged Wrangell 47-44 and Unalaska nipped Unalakleet 45-44.

Of the four teams that advanced to Friday's semifinals, only Point Hope has claimed a state championship. The Harpoonerettes have won state three times, most recently in 2012.

On Thursday, they defeated 2015 state champion Glennallen by limiting the Panthers to two points in the first quarter.

Jordyn Lane dropped in 16 points and Bridgett Oviok tallied 13 points, six rebounds and five assists for Point Hope, which led 11-2 after one quarter and 26-10 after two.

Gloria Jacobsen provided a team-high 10 points for Glennallen.
