South Wolverines take down Dimond in showdown between Anchorage volleyball powers

The South Wolverines and Dimond Lynx drew a crowd Friday night for their Cook Inlet Conference match at Dimond High, where the Wolverines prevailed in four sets.

The match pitted the state’s most dominant programs and came six days after Dimond defeated South in the championship match of last weekend’s 22-team West Spiketacular at West High.

South’s Hanna Henrie was named the MVP of the tournament, and she showed why in Friday’s match. Henrie slammed 20 kills and had nine digs and two aces to lead the Wolverines. Other big contributers for South included Tracy Rasavong (19 assists, 5 kills, 2 aces), Grace Ruebling (6 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces) and Elizabeth Johnson (15 digs, 4 aces).

In other CIC matches Friday, Bartlett and Service both won in three sets.

Bartlett downed Chugiak 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 behind Sinalynn Roberts’ eight kills and 27 assists. Dora Roberts added 10 kills and Neyana Siania-Salanoa had seven for the Golden Bears.

In Service’s 25-14, 25-14, 25-16 win over Eagle River, two players ripped double-figure kills for the Cougars. Anna Fenn had 13 kills to go with seven digs, and Ashley Hayes totaled 11 kills, 19 assists and four aces.

Collette Carpenter added eight kills and two aces and Autumn Kirkpatrick had 15 digs and three aces for Service.
