UAA's Turner sits 1st in decathlon, Anders 3rd in heptathlon

UAA seniors Travis Turner and Karolin Anders turned in strong Day One performances in their multi-event competitions Friday at the Sacramento State Hornet Invitational, the Seawolves' first outdoor track and field competition of the season.

Turner sits first in a field of 10 decathletes with 3,648 points through five events, which gives him a 12-point lead.

Anders, an eight-time Division II All-American who has earned seven of those honors in multi-events, sits third in the field of 24 heptathletes with 3,085 points. The two athletes ahead of her both compete in Division I.

UAA also has two freshmen competing in the multi-events. David Sramek is third in the decathlon with 3,434 points and Elena Cano is 17th in the heptathlon with 2,408 points.

The decathlon and heptathlon wrap Saturday, when several other Seawolves athletes will compete in open events.
