UAA volleyball team outlasts Rocky Mountain

The UAA volleyball team shook off a rocky start to battle past an NAIA team in four sets Friday night in Billings, Montana.

Diana Fa'amausili pounded 16 kills, Chrisalyn Johnson ripped 15 and sophomore Keala Kaio-Perez provided three aces and a career-high 32 digs to lead the Seawolves past Rocky Mountain College 22-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-15.

UAA (6-4) made eight hitting errors in the first set for a .104 attack percentage but bounced back to hit .298 over the next three sets.

The Seawolves finished with 62 kills, including nine from Leah Swiss and six apiece from Vanessa Hayes and Tara Melton. Hayes, Melton and Fa'amausili each recorded three block assists.

Rocky Mountain (9-5) had more digs than UAA, 84-77, with five Bears reaching double figures. UAA had more aces, 8-1, with six Seawolves serving at least one.

The match was the final nonconference game of the season for the Seawolves, who on Saturday in Billings face Montana State-Billings in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference match that begins at 5 p.m. ADT Saturday.
