UAA men’s basketball team goes winless in Seawolf Jamboree

The Seawolf Jamboree wrapped up Saturday with no wins for the Seawolves.

Poor shooting foiled UAA in a 67-58 loss to Lake Superior State, the home team's second loss in the two-day tournament.

On Friday, a big comeback came up short in an 83-77 loss to Northwood University of Michigan.

UAA was the only team to go 0-2 in the tournament. Lake Superior State won both of its games — it beat UAF 85-63 on Friday — and UAF and Northwood both finished 1-1, thanks to UAF's 84-79 win Saturday.

Tournament MVP Rog Stein racked up a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds and added three steals and three assists to help Lake Superior State take down UAA.

Stein was 7 of 16 from the field to help the Lakers (2-0) shoot 42.9 percent for the game.

UAA (3-3) was held to 35.6 percent shooting for the game (21 of 59), and 21.4 percent in the first half, when the Seawolves managed to sink six field goals.

Take away the 7-of-12 effort by Brennan Rymer, who scored a career-high 19 points, and the Seawolves shot 29.8 percent for the game (14 of 47).

Tobin Karlberg, a freshman from Anchorage, was 4 of 8 to join Rymer in double figures with 12 points. Rymer and Karlberg were a combined 5-of-9 from 3-point range, but the rest of the Seawolves were 3 of 16.

Lake Superior State raced to a 7-0 lead only to give up nine straight points to UAA, but the 9-7 edge was UAA's only lead of the game. The Lakers led 25-18 at the half and by as many as 22 points in the second half.

The Seawolves return to the Alaska Airlines Center next week for a nonconference series against South Dakota Mines.
