ORIGINAL STORY:

Anchorage police reported Wednesday that a man found shot in a vehicle in East Anchorage on Monday morning has died.

Police have not named the victim, who was found in the driver's seat of a 2008 tan Chrysler 300 with the license plate "CREEPN" at Muldoon Circle. He had a gunshot wound to the head, spokesman MJ Thim said.

Investigators are trying to contact his family, Thim said.

Officers were responding to reports of a shooting at the circle when they found the man, according to an alert sent out by the police department. Police said at that time the victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Thim said the man's fatal shooting was being investigated as a homicide. Police said no additional details about the incident were available, citing an ongoing investigation.

So far this year, Anchorage has seen 23 homicides. This time last year the total was 24, Thim said.

In a separate statement sent out Wednesday, police released several new details about a Tuesday home invasion and homicide in the Jewel Lake neighborhood.

Investigators have determined two men broke open the front door of a home and "entered unannounced," Thim said. A couple was inside the home at the time, he said.

"The adult male resident and one of the adult male suspects exchanged gun fire," Thim said. "The adult male suspect with the gun was shot. Both suspects then fled."

No one else was inside the residence, and no one else was injured, police said.

The injured suspect was found by police lying in a driveway with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died of his injuries at a local hospital.

No arrests have been made.
