CSI FORENSIC SCIENCE CAMP - ALASKA LAW ENFORCEMENT MUSEUM

Location: Alaska Law Enforcement Museum, 245 West 5th Avenue, Suite 112, Anchorage

Description: This camp is designed to increase high school level student’s awareness of science by exposure to forensics. Learn about drug analysis, finger prints, fire science, forensic anthropology, blood stain analysis, DNA collection, firearms and tool mark analysis. Students will get hands-on experience with crime scene processing taught by law enforcement professionals. The camps mission is to nurture and develop long term interest in science education and a possible career in forensics. Camp includes field trip to Fish and Game Shooting Range.

ALASKA THEATRE OF YOUTH SUMMER CONSERVATORY

YOUNG WOMEN’S FOUR-DAY OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP TRIPS

Location: Different routes for each trip in Alaska State Parks

Description: Our four day, three night “Girl’s Trip” offers young women a chance to make new friends and seek high adventure with other like-minded girls. This is an Outdoor Leadership Backpacking Trip for young women ages 14-17, and will be offered as a series of three distinct backpacking trips to different wilderness areas in Southcentral Alaska. In this course trip, we will cover wilderness emergency medical situations and develop the building blocks of our decision-making/risk assessment mindset. Our female guides will mentor/teach from their own wilderness experiences to help our young women explorers develop their building blocks of outdoor skills for a lifetime of leading in the outdoor setting. MARTIAL ARTS INTENSIVE DAY CAMP

Description: ABJJ’s Martial Arts Summer Camps are a fun and exciting way to introduce your children to a broad spectrum of martial arts. Not only will your child be exposed to and learn techniques in Brazilian jiujitsu, wrestling, capoeira, Muay Thai and boxing, they will also learn about the histories and origins of all of them. TENNIS CAMP: SMASH CAMP

Location: South High School Tennis Courts (pending), Anchorage

Grades/Age: Ages 6-17 | Cost: 1 Session, $60/weekly

Description: Who: Ages 6-17 (beginner to intermediate level players), 10-11 a.m.; Ages 8-17 (beginner to intermediate level players), 11a.m.-12 p.m.; Ages 14-17 (high school varsity and open level players), 12-1 p.m.

What: This group is a fun kids group that is an introduction/continuation to learning the game of tennis. Learning and playing a lot of tennis this group has a ton of fun drills and games. Group capacity is maxed at 16 players.

RIDGE RIDERS ADVENTURE CAMP AT THE SUNDERLAND RANCH

Location: Sunderland Ranch, 10856 North Wolverine Road, Palmer

Grades/Age: Grades 6-10 | Cost: $625

Description: Ages 12-15; must be entering junior high - prior experience is not necessary.

Day one and two will consist of riding basics and horse skills. We will start our day with calling horses up form the pasture, haltering them and barn chores. Saddling and working in pairs for skill sessions. Each rider will get out for a trail ride each day. On Thursday, your teen will come prepared to stay overnight at the ranch. We will provide a list of what they should and should not bring. This opportunity to cook meals and campfire together will strengthen the memories and friendships they are making. Campers will participate in a variety of other activities including arts, cooking and music. Friday we will be picked up in the Alaska Zipline Hummers and taken to our final adventure - six tandem tower zips with Alaska Zipline Adventure Park, also part of our ranch. Throughout the week they will have opportunities to earn coins for spending in the gift shop. You are welcome to send them with cash for snacks and other trinkets. Youth will build confidence overcoming obstacles and learning new skills throughout their week. They will have plenty of guided outdoor games as well as time to hang out and enjoy the peace of the woods the horses and the ranch.

Description: Students will be immersed in the world of clay one week at a time at Turnagain Ceramic’s well-equipped, welcoming and safe ceramics studio space. Guided by experienced instructors, summer camp students will learn both hand building and wheel throwing techniques while producing one-of-a-kind pieces of art, such as sculptures and figurines, planters, mugs and bowls.

The camp is designed for students to attend one week or several weeks depending on their interests and availability. While each week is a self-contained session, as students build skills week over week, they can take on more advanced projects and techniques.

H2O SPECIES SPIES: BIOLOGY CAMP ON STREAM ECOLOGY

Location: UAA ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building, Anchorage

Grades/Age: Grades 5-8 | Cost: $350

Description: Students will learn the tools of the trade to be a stream ecologist. They will explore the organisms that we can see, and those that we can’t, that live in our local waters. Students will find scrapers, shredders, gatherers and filterers and predators that live in the water. Water quality and health will be determined by which organisms are thriving. Students will collect, observe, and analyze species that live in a freshwater stream that is within walking distance to the ConocoPhillips Science Building.

Location: Girls from across Alaska attend Camp Togowoods every summer. Camp Togowoods is located on more than 400 beautiful acres along the lakeshore near Wasilla. Description: Does your kid love to sing and have fun with others? Breakthrough Vocal Camp is a one week day camp that focuses on fun while learning songs and then performing them. We will work with each camper on their songs individually during the week and get it “stage ready.” We also work on a big group number with all of our campers each day and ... every camper gets a solo! At the end of the week, we will perform a show with all the solo songs and group number to family and friends alike!

SUMMER YOUTH THEATER CONSERVATORY

Location: Chilkat Center for the Arts, Haines

Grades/Age: Ages 6-18 | Cost: $225/Playmakers; $325/Summer Youth Theater Conservatory

Description: Continuing its summer tradition, Haines will once again welcome “Playmakers” for kids ages 6-7, and the “Summer Youth Theater Conservatory”; for participants ages 8-18. These programs are sponsored by Lynn Canal Community Players, reflecting all aspects of theater production. Theater skills are taught by seasoned professionals. Basic theater principles, as well as voice, movement, communication methods and working with other actors, are taught and stressed. Students will also learn to appreciate how “style” is determined be the “world of the play.”

Seasons are conducted in the beautiful Chilkat Center for the Arts, a historic 260-seat theater in Haines.

Training culminates in a full, on-stage production with the participation of all of our campers.

ANCHORAGE CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL: CHAMBER INTENSIVE

Description: The ACMF Chamber Intensive is a rigorous one-week summer program for young musicians. Participants study chamber music with outstanding faculty from across the United States and abroad. INTRODUCTION TO OCEANOGRAPHY AT THE “MIDDLE COLLEGE” FOR RURAL ALASKA SUMMER ACADEMY

Location: Prince William Sound College, Valdez

Grades/Age: Alaska high schoolers, ages 16 and older | Cost: Free tuition, fees and housing

Description: Topics include: plate tectonics and the evolution of the ocean basins, the chemical composition of seawater, forces acting on water to generate waves and currents, relationships among physical, chemical and biological processes, and complex societal issues such as global climate changes, fisheries management and pollution. Addresses plate tectonics, sediments, winds and Coriolis effect, ocean circulation, ocean-climate interactions, waves and tides, marine habitats, marine productivity, pelagic and benthic organisms, unusual and rare environments, marine resources, human impacts and sea ice. Counts as a college general education requirement course.

Description: Our Alaska Youth Outdoor Leadership Trip is for ages 10-13 and is meant to be a trip that helps youth transition into the higher adventure and responsibilities that come with the pre-teen/early teen years.
