ANCHORAGE YOUTH HIKING & EXPEDITION CLUB

Location: Alaska Backcountry Trips/State Parks

Description: Into the Woods Alaska is offering hiking, camping and expedition programs for youth ages 12-18. Daily hiking trips will offer workshops for youth to gain new backcountry skill sets, while camping/expedition trips will guide youth toward self-sufficiency and a set of wilderness safety skills that will last a lifetime. For camping, we will provide each kid with their own bivvy sack, making it easy to social distance and have privacy, while keeping the bugs out. We will plan the logistics, food and supplies needed for our trips, but these trips will be all about getting kids to do things for themselves. Youth participants will level up their Alaska outdoor skills, dive into environmental science and build friendships, teamwork and self-sufficiency. 100% outdoors, 100% authentically Alaskan, place-based outdoor and environmental education through experiential, hands-on learning. BALLET STORY CAMP: CINDERELLA

Location: Alaska Dance Theatre Inc., Anchorage

Grades/Age: Ages 4-6 - Cost: $290

Description: An enchanted week awaits your child! Based on the classical ballet of Cinderella, this is a great opportunity for your tiny dancer to learn the story of this traditional ballet and its music, while also exploring the concepts of movement. Each day there will be a creative movement class, a nutritious snack, craft time and choreography. The week will end with a little performance of Cinderella. THE DOME SUMMER CAMP

TRAILSIDE DISCOVERY CAMP

Description: Trailside Discovery Camp is an award-winning camp program in Alaska that provides a broad range of outdoor environmental education experiences for students ages 4 to 16 from all economic, social and cultural backgrounds. JUNIOR GOLF CAMPS

ALASKA ROCK GYM SUMMER CLIMBING CAMP FOR KIDS

Location: Alaska Rock Gym, 665 East 33rd Avenue, Anchorage

Description: A climbing and activity camp for kids and young teens. A great introduction to indoor climbing for first timers, and an opportunity to advance skills and climb harder for repeat campers. Description: The Spenard Rec Summer Day Camp is a licensed full-day camp for children ages 6-12. Activities include but are not limited to: swimming and water safety, personal safety, outdoor recreation, sports and games, arts and crafts, hiking, field trips, bicycling and a host of other activities. It is a positive summer program for kids that will help build self esteem, friendships, skills and a basis for making positive recreational choices throughout a lifetime. CREATE ACADEMY: SWIRLING SCULPTURES

Description: Art and engineering combine to create crazy contraptions and magnificent mobiles. Using balance, energy and design, build large scale moving sculptures that twirl in the breeze or ball machines that seem to defy gravity. Find inspiration in artists Alexander Calder, Anne Lilly and George Rhoads, who designed the ball machine sculpture Calliope Borealic at the Anchorage Museum. *This camp is adapted from a curriculum developed by the Edgerton Center at MIT.

CREATE ACADEMY: MINDSTORM ROBOTICS, BEGINNER-ADVANCED

Description: Build robots that move, spin, push, light up and make sounds. Program them with visual drag-and-drop programming software. Design robots to complete simple and challenging tasks like driving through a maze. The project will expand and vary upon previous weeks. Each student will work individually using a LEGO® MINDSTORMS EV3 kit. *This camp is designed for students who have some experience with LEGO®Mindstorms robotics.

CREATE ACADEMY: LEGO® ROBOTICS: MILO MAKERS

Description: Build robots that spin, push or respond to sound. Program them with visual drag-and-drop programming software. Design robots to complete simple and challenging tasks like animals that move or vehicles with sounds and lights. Campers will work individually using Beebots or LEGO® Education WeDo kits. *This camp is designed for students who are new or have little experience with LEGO® WeDo robotics.

COLLEGE COMMON APP ESSAY CAMP FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

Description: Most colleges will require that you write an essay as part of the application process. Writing an essay for the common application is often one of the difficult parts about applying to colleges, but it doesn’t have to be. By using a step-wise approach, we start at brainstorming ideas by tapping into your experiences, move into developing a theme that will demonstrate your uniqueness and finish with a well-crafted personal essay that will tell the colleges something about who you are. This interactive, collaborative approach makes the process almost fun. We can take you from having no idea of what you’ll write about to an essay you’ll be proud of.

ALASKA CHILDREN’S CHOIR MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP (ANCHORAGE)

Location: TBD, Anchorage venue

Grades/Age: Ages 7-16 recommended - Cost: $175/student; sibling discounts available

Description: Come enjoy a week-long introduction into musical theatre! Students will meet daily from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. They will prepare a short production throughout the week, learning skills including singing, acting and creating stage props for the set. The week will culminate in a single performance of their musical theatre production on Friday evening. Pending enough enrollment, we will be performing “Tom Sawyer: the Musical.” The recommended ages are 7-16. The cost is $175 per student, and parents will also be responsible for providing a simple costume for their child, or material so the student can make their own costume. Discounts are available for multiple children in a family.

Description: Get ready for a different kind of summer camp combining the beauty of nature with your creative talents! Students will spend the beginning of each day in a songwriting workshop with world-renowned Alaskan artist and songwriter, Kate Bass. We will then hit the trails to find inspiration and discover the natural rhythms and harmonies in nature and put our new songwriting skills to work. Suitable for singers, artists, instrumentalists and anyone interested in songwriting, music making and getting out for some fresh air!

ACRO SERIES

Location: Studio Pulse Center for Dance, Anchorage

Grades/Age: Ages 8-12 - Cost: $125

Description: Build strength, flexibility and body awareness in these four Acro clinics designed to immerse students in acrobatic and tumbling skills, including head and handstands, front and back walkovers and handsprings, and cartwheels, aerials and shoulder rolls. Dancers will learn how to properly align their bodies to safely execute postures, tricks and performative acro skills. These 1.5 hour long classes run every Monday in June from 5-6:30 p.m. Dancers should wear gymnastics or dance dance leotards with bare feet. Bring a water bottle! Masks required until Anchorage mandates permit otherwise.

MAGIC CAMP WITH MAGIC DON

Location: Parlor of Mystery Studio and grounds, 7537 Basel Street, Anchorage

Description: These sensational camps are for the serious Magic Enthusiast. This year’s projects include some amazing new magic and illusions - like the floating light bulb - and some wild illusionettes - like the Vanishing Elephant and the Great Escape! Each student will create a complete magic set of their own to keep, as well as some small illusions. At the end of the week, we will put on a show for family and friends before digging into a delicious barbecue. Registration is limited to 10 participants; 5 minimum.
